My Story

T5

Last April I acquired by "stealth purchase" (much to the wife's unhappiness & anger) an unregistered white Holden Commodore 3.8ltr V6 for $300.00.
I did a little bit of work on her & got her through a roadworthy & taxed her for the road.
The idea was then to sell her & make a tidy profit.

But then …
I began to start to enjoy driving this old beat-up shitbox.

She had more poke than my normal drive & would slide round corners with ease at 60kmh or more. She really began to grow on me. The fact that I didn’t care if anyone scratched her or dented her, sure did have a liberating effect when driving in Brisbane traffic.
She came in handy for trips to the pub where she would then be abandoned until the next morning. In fact she came in handy on several occasions, for example when travel was needed but hail was forecast. She became needed.

When I first saw the email from Shitbox Rally advising me I was in the 2017 ShitBox Rally my head began to spin! I was in the rally! I had the car to do the job!!! This would be fantastic! It was around this time that she was named - Thunderbird 5 or T5 for short.
So she got a name & she had a purpose!

The Shitbox Rally is a trip of endurance.
You basically take a vehicle (which cost under $1k) from one end of Australia to the other in aid of charity. The Charity is the Cancer Council which does allot of good work. Helping victims & victims families of this horrible bastard decease.

So here we are with not much time left to go.
Mission 1 is to get to the start line!!!
The start line is in Adelaide, South Australia.
So first of all with no backup, T5 has to make it to Adelaide, which is approx. 2000kms away.
If we make that Mission 2 is to make it to Cairns. Some 3800kms.

For T5 this is a one way journey.
She will be donated to the charity at the end of the rally, in whatever state she may be in. So this may be her last ride…

So you see we need all you good people on our side wishing us well.
In fact we need more than that.
We need your sponsors…

I am beginning to think this decease will eventually effect everyone on this planet in some way or another. Increasing numbers of people are losing friends or family.
Please help us try to make a small difference.
Thankyou…

Shitbox Rally is not a race, rather a challenge to achieve the unthinkable: to drive cars worth less than $1,000 across Australia via some of its most arduous roads, all in the name of charity. We drive approximately 3,800kms across Australia in 7 days taking in some of the country’s most remote and beautiful places. Each team needs to raise a minimum of $4,000 for Cancer Council before we depart on the 7 day journey. Please help us by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Shitbox Rally, the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
